Description

I write about how our digital and networked world changes how we work, learn, decide and organize. I explore the tools and strategies that help us navigate the networked world. Customization: Nitter offers customization options, allowing users to tailor their experience based on their preferences. The nicest feature of Fairside it that you can call it to have it redirect you to a working instance. That is definitely the case. I tried them all and a few unofficial ones. And some of the ones I tested have not been updated in months. Concerning Meta’s Threads, should it be available here in Europe, now or in the future, I wouldn’t use it for two reasons : It was created by a developer known as Zedeus and the Nitter GitHub repository was created in June 2019. As of the 10th of November 2022, 39 people have contributed to it on GitHub, over 6,000 people have starred it, and it has been forked 275 times. The global search doesn't show nsfw results. That didn't even work when I tried doing it with my usual authentication headers for some reason. When you access a profile directly, it should work tho (unless one of my instances / accounts (signified by the number in the parenthesis) is currently rate limited). European citizen in a networked world. Based in the Netherlands, living in Europe, working globally. There are no Others. There is just me and many of you.

Yandex is the only search engine that displays Nitter results from time to time, but you know, you hope the instance they gave you is not the one that is broken.

Ad-Free Browsing: Nitter eliminates the distraction of ads, allowing users to focus solely on the content they’re interested in. https://github.com/libredirect 火狐浏览器下载地址: https://addons.mozilla.org/zh-CN/firefox/addon/libredirect/ For now I found a Dutch instance (on this list), and will see if adding some RSS feeds through them is workable. Dutch Provinces Looking for Open Data Inspiration Last week ten of the twelve Dutch Provinces met at the South-Holland Provincial government to discuss open data, and exchange experiences, seeking to inspire each other to do more on open government data. I participated as part of my roles as open data project lead for both the Province of Overijssel, and the Province Fryslân. […] Nitter is nice, but the problem is how you can’t trust all instances, sometimes they don’t see the messages, sometimes they fail to do simple stuff, sometimes they don’t even work at all, or something fails.

The main downside to using Nitter is that it relies on instances, and some of these may go down at times or permanently. In my experience Nitter instances encounter less issues than other alternative services’ instances such as Invidious for YouTube, nevertheless I agree this may occur occasionally. Personally I’ve set a dedicated bookmarklet sub-folder in Firefox’s Bookmarks Toolbar to which I’ve added 5 simple scripts to handle 5 Nitter instances, allowing to switch easily from one to another :

A way to deal with this issue is by using a Nitter redirector, such as Farside. Farside has a list of working Nitter instances, which is updated every 5 minutes to remove instances which are slow to respond or which output error codes. Hmm, doesn't appear like it's working for me. Anything I'm doing wrong or is this an issue on your end?Doctrow, Cory (10 April 2020). "Pluralistic: 10 Apr 2020 – Pluralistic: Daily links from Cory Doctorow". Pluralistic . Retrieved 10 November 2021. There are several publicly available instances of Nitter that you can use, distributed across various protocols including the clearnet, as well as Tor, I2P, and Lokinet. You can also follow the instructions on Nitter's GitHub repository to set up your own instance. Mobile Blogging at BlogWalk in Umea The theme for the fifth Blogwalk in Umea was “Blogging on the Move”. It was loosely inspired by the fact that Howard Rheingold gave a seminar and workshop before the Blogwalk on SmartMobs and the effects of mobile devices on our behaviour. A second reason was that it required a lot of mobility to get […]

Add/remove Nitter instances instances, be cautious to run the bookmarklets only when applicable of course, et voila. Dr. Freddy and Moving the Frontiers of Learning Today I attended the public defense of the PhD thesis of Freddy Veltman-van Vugt, titled ‘Grensverleggend leren’ (roughly translates to ’moving the frontier of learning forward’). She focused on what it takes for teachers to learn and teach skills critical to our highly digitised and interconnected world in a self directed way. Her doctorate already […] Q2: Can I post tweets using Nitter? Nitter primarily serves as a read-only interface, meaning you can view and interact with existing tweets, but posting new tweets is not supported. Operators of Nitter instances are sometimes faced with the issue of bots using their instances to scrape a large number of tweets in a short period of time, and they often respond to this issue by introducing rate limiting, which has the unfortunate effect of making it harder for legitimate visitors to access Nitter. Edit: nitter.net uses more graphql endpoints than most instances because it's running a dev versionJames, most Niter instances indeed fail to work, or to work reliably, but not all. There is a workaround though with a sleek project called ‘Fairside” : “A redirecting service for FOSS alternative frontends” as mentioned on [https://github.com/benbusby/farside]. Practically speaking it holds an updated list of frontends that are active of course and which work correctly, available at [https://farside.link/] for lists to instances other than Cloudflare-based, and [https://cf.farside.link/] for lists including Cloudflare-based instances. These frontends’ lists include one dedicated to Nitter instances. I am passionate about increasing people's ability to act (knowledge), and their ability to change (learning). Key-words: open data, open government, fablabs, making, complexity, networked agency, networked learning, ethics by design.
