Tara Gallagher is the main character who seems to think her daughter does not think she is cool as she reaches her teenage years. The book tells the story of 36-year-old Tara Gallagher who used to want it all, but now just wants a nap and a Friday night in her pyjamas watching Gogglebox. Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. sad mom wants to make life changes, does things she hates to make these life changes, realizes she had it within her the whole time. It was a talk mainly about resilience, mental health and online trolls, but it quickly turned into off-the-cuff banter.

Mammy Banter

I also got such a nostalgic feeling while reading it, with all the 90s music references (I am also a survivor of the over concealed lips era) and who doesn’t love a Friday night on the settee with your husband in front of gogglebox? As a Mam of 3 children myself I can completely relate to how Serena feels although mine are very different in age, it sometimes feels like they are the same age as Serena’s children. Also, I love it when the author narrates their own novels, but I found the accent quite strong that some of the wording, when pronounced, sounded like something else was being said. Not only is it narrated by the author, Serena Terry, but it is so brilliantly acted and performed, that you can really honestly put yourself straight slap bang into the middle of the book and get swept up into the frantic life of Tara and her brood. The book's protagonist, Tara Gallagher, seeks a more relaxed life in contrast to her former self, which sought out to obtain everything. My daughter had TikTok for quite a while and I assumed it was just an app for young people, but she would show me hilarious videos and one night my husband and I downloaded it and we found it so refreshing," explains Serena. I loved Tara in this as she is so easy to relate to and the antics of her three children was very hilarious. But most of all, she's going to prove to herself that she can still be a mum, still work full time, and still be Beyonce.

The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum by Serena Terry - Waterstones

I enjoyed this read-no I didn't love it, and it won't become a comfort read, but I very well will most likely pull this out one more time and give it a re-read. She has over 2 million followers across TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, with more than 35 million views across all platforms. Her thoughts, self-belief and self-esteem needed some working on, I know that wasn’t the premise of this book, but it would have been lovely to see her realising and making some necessary changes rather than pulling down the other women (in particular) around her to make herself feel better. I listened to the audiobook of Mammy Banter and found myself feeling like I had good company while doing various things around the house. I am actually gutted that Tara is fictional, because I felt she has became a new friend by end of this and I was a bit upset that I had to say goodbye to her. DERRY woman Serena Terry's hilarious Mammy Banter skits may have been viewed and shared by millions of people across the world, but the 36-year-old is keen to drop "truth bombs" into her social media content to remind her followers that "life isn't perfect" and "it's OK to feel insecure at times".

THE SECRET LIFE OF AN UNCOOL MUM - PressReader MAMMY BANTER: THE SECRET LIFE OF AN UNCOOL MUM - PressReader

the book had some funny parts where I really did laugh out loud and could relate as a middle aged mom of a teen, but did not offer the escape I needed. She also experienced a severe bout of postpartum depression soon after, which led to depression and anxiety. Now that she's 36 with three children, a wonderful husband, and a mundane job, she spends Friday nights in her PJs watching Gogglebox instead of headlining Glastonbury.
