Description

This great sounding Makala MK-C Concert Ukulele is ideal for anyone beginning or wanting to improve their ukulele.

To my mind that’s no bad thing, particularly when one’s a beginner and still building confidence, or else want something to mess about on without having to worry about neighbours etc. I only mention this because Kala’s slightly more expensive models like the KA-S and KA-15S come with a Graph Tech “NuBone” nut and saddle. I'm very pleased to have this new (ish) ukulele brand back on the reviews page, and particularly with a collaboration model that I must . The geared machineheads offer good tuning stability, as do the fitted Aquila strings (notwithstanding the usual 'stretching' that occurs). There are cheaper ukuleles out there (if you’re really strapped for cash) but I’m not sure if there are any that are better than this.

The tuners on the MK-S work fine, and as far as I can tell they’re identical to the tuners on the KA-15S except for the buttons. It is an ok beginner ukulele but I recommend spending the extra 25-35 bucks and getting the Kala Ka-s.

I’ve had mine a year and only now that I think I’m a pretty advanced ukulele player am I thinking about an upgrade. The Makala MK-S is a great uke for the money and is far better than the cheap ukuleles that are seemingly everywhere these days.Got a Cherry Sunburst Dolphin and thoroughly enjoy playing it as well as my guitars and Makala Concert and Soprano.

The Dolphin gives a more muted tone when strummed which is a little bit more forgiving to newcomers but it’s a tone that also has it’s limitations. Aimed squarely at a serious beginner, or developing players seeking a low-cost, quality ukulele, with a built in pickup system. This is common on more affordable instruments, but I think the synthetic bone found on slightly more expensive ukuleles tends to offer increased sustain and volume.I’m from Malaysia and its hard for me to get an ukulele Kala Makala Dolphin Soprano Ukulele – Light Blue Burst. I tried it with Aquila Nylguts, but I put Martin 600 fluorocarbons on it, and I like those much more. All impressions are based on the how the uke performed “out of the box” with no tweaks or adjustments. I'd like to add that a friend of mine admitted to me that she'd lost her temper and thrown one of these about 10 foot from her room, where it landed on the staircase, and she assured me that it was thrown HARD.
