It may seem like Rolex and Seiko sit at complete odds with one another, but the truth is that they both have far more in common than you’d think. Both admired an industry that resisted them; both were small but thought big; and both took advantage of challenging times to grow instead of perish. The fact that they did that side by side is all the more satisfying. The Oily Bits It has a full satin finish, which, in my opinion, creates a nice contrast to the all-polished case, but since there is no other element of the watch that is bushed, it can give the impression that this bracelet was not made for this watch. But at least I think that the brushed end links which sit against the polished case create a nice contrast. It would just have been nice if at least some of the other parts of the bracelet would have been polished as well. When a lot of people look for an affordable automatic watch, the first brand to turn to is Seiko. And there is of course a good reason for that. Seiko makes some great watches at very attractive prices, and their quality and finish in relation to price are exceptionally high. Worth pointing out of course is the fact that Seiko has a wide array of watches in a wide array of price ranges. In this article, we will focus specifically on one watch, which is part of Seiko’s sports 5 entry-level collection. Few other watch brands in the same price category offer as good build quality, durability, and finish, as Seiko

The cleanest and most refined watch designs tend to be those that prove to be the most timeless and classic, and the Seiko 5 SNXS77 is definitely one that falls in this category. The bracelet is light, rattles, and does not give a reassuring feeling of quality and premium finish. This is the reason why many people tend to opt for replacement straps for their affordable watches. The watch has some downsides, but these are things that at least I can live with when factoring in the price. There are few other brands that are able to offer such great finish, reliability, and build quality as Seiko with automatic watches, and the Seiko 5 SNX79 definitely lives up to the expectations. A: The accuracy of Seiko 5 watches can vary, but many models like the SNK375K1 have a daily variance of -20 to +49 seconds. While this isn't top-tier accuracy, it is quite reasonable for an affordable automatic watch. At least, mineral crystals have a few advantages, such as being less prone to shattering, and the surface isn't as reflective as sapphire.

Authenticity

The Seiko SNXS79 follows much the same principles. There’s a dial demarcated with hands and markers to read the time from, a case to stop it getting wet and a bracelet to stop it falling off. Bells? None. Whistles? Not a peep. Rolex was founded as a watchmaker to the professionals, people working in trades that didn’t care if their watch could sing a song or play a tune. The dial of the SNX79 keeps it from being boring. The watch has a lovely ”dark rhodium”/ dark grey dial with a striking sunburst finis. This makes for a playful dial that reflects the light beautifully.

Almost every single piece, however, because there are a few tiny little elements that Rolex still has made elsewhere. The hands, for example, are made just down the road at a company called Fiedler. Semantics, really, compared to pretty much every other watchmaker, whose parts are sourced from supply chains across Switzerland. By comparison, Seiko doesn’t stand a chance. Or does it? The Seiko 5 SNXS77 is a simple, clean, and elegant watch that offers great value for money. Priced at just over 100 USD, it offers exceptional value for money. It is clean, elegant, and powered by a workhorse automatic movement. One of the achingly fantastic things about Rolex are the stories that come attached to it. Records, inventions, landmark moments that redefined the entire industry. It may not be the oldest brand, founded in 1905, but it’s had the biggest impact, bowling over the competition in a way that makes Tesla look like a manufacturer of wheelbarrows. That classic Rolex look really does boil down to just a few things: it’s clean, it’s simple and it’s well-proportioned. A Rolex is to luxury watches what a chimpanzee is to primates—the best, the original, the classic. When a design is as refined as a Rolex, anything else feels like needless excess, and so when you’re looking at a budget alternative, the same criteria apply. A: Yes, one of the core principles of Seiko 5 watches is that they are automatic. This means they are self-winding and powered by the natural motion of the wearer's wrist. To begin with, this watch is part of the Seiko 5 collection. This collection is Seiko’s entry-level watch collection which all meets 5 criteria (hence the name 5). Amongst those criteria, they all have automatic movements, decent water resistance, a durable case, and a recessed crown, to mention a few. This collection in particular is praised for the great value it offers in relation to its price. To keep the watch’s elegant design, it keeps its dial printing at a minimum. It has an ”Automatic” printing and applied Seiko and Seiko 5 logo. Seiko 5 SNXS77 Movement Seiko 5 watches have a staggering history and heritage, lasting several decades. The principles of the Seiko 5 range are surprisingly built on five key aspects: Overall, the all-stainless steel design adds some sportiness to the case design, but its all-polished case makes it lean more towards a classy dress watch than a sporty tool watch. But don’t let that fool you, because the Seiko 5s are notoriously known for being robust and durable. By Rolex standards, getting all fancy and dressed up means to no longer print its markers straight onto the dial like a barbarian and contain them within polished vessels instead. Sounds fancy, but whilst the painted markers serve nighttime reading by glowing in the dark, those polished surrounds actually help readability in the day by catching the light as well.

Everyone needs a watch that is just simply beautiful and in no way over the top. A watch that works no matter what you are wearing or for which occasion you are wearing it. The bracelet has some play and some rattle but it is comfortable to wear, and due to its relatively lightweight, occasionally, you won’t even notice it is there. All in all, the Seiko 5 SNX79 is a watch that offers exceptional value. It has a clean and elegant design which is complemented by a striking grey sunburst dial. It is of course equipped with a robust and durable automatic movement which has proven to be a workhorse. The bracelethas a 19mm width and a fold-over clasp. Very simple in design, just like the rest of the watch. The bracelet design is clean and works very well with the design of the rest of the watch. Specifications The watch is presented on a stainless steel bracelet which is satin finished and made with 3 links. The issue with affordable watches is often that the bracelet is the part of the watch that is compromised with the most, and the bracelet on the SNX79 is no exception. The bracelet is not terrible, but if you want a heftier premium feel or just a more premium touch, you may want to change it to a leather strap or a replacement metal strap made of better quality.

The watch has a simple yet elegant dial. This watch proves that even the most simple and clean designs can be the most beautiful. The principle is mirrored in the Seiko equally, with slight deviations from the designs at the quarters to aid orientation in the dark, with the day and date display dominating at three. The hands are just as sleek and simple, one long, one short and one skinny. The only flair comes from the sunburst texture of the dial, but we’ll let Seiko off for that one as it’s really quite smart. Regardless, to have a sturdy and reliable automatic movement at this price point is still a great value proposition from Seiko. The Seiko 5 snxs79 is a classic and elegant timepiece with a clean design that is great for everyday wear.

A: Yes, Seiko 5 watches are designed to be water-resistant as one of their key features. However, the level of water resistance can vary between models. The SNK375K1, for example, has a water resistance of up to 30 meters, which is suitable for everyday wear but not for activities like swimming or diving.
